Walking tour of Jerusalem with Maayan Leshem

Experience the fascinating secrets of the Old City on a walking tour with Maayan, a local resident. Climb the rooftops of the city, browse artifacts in a roman shopping street and hear about the significance of the city and its modern day complexities for the different religions.

10:00 am Meet at Jaffa Gate

We will start the day with an overview of the Mishkenot – Sha'ananim Neighborhood located adjacent to the Old City. The neighborhood was built in 1860 and was the first to be constructed outside of the walls of the Old City. It has a great story that will help us understand the way this city developed and why we have an Old and new city.

Next, we climb up the Old City roof tops with a view of the four quarters. Experience a panoramic view of the sites and buildings in the Old City of Jerusalem.

In the distance, we will see the Mount of Olives with a 3000 year old cemetery that is still in use today. Events in the life of Jesus, as related in the Gospels took place on the Mount of Olives and the Church's we see are commemorating them.

Continue onto the Cardo – Jerusalem's Old main street over 1500 years ago. Today, the Cardo is preserved as a shopping street full of arts and unique artifacts. This part of Jerusalem is great for seeing archeology. A 3,000 year old wall of the city is a great place to start.

Experience a spiritual visit to the Western wall. Place a note in the cracks of this wall that has become not only a holy and spiritual place but is also a symbol and a center point for millions
of people worldwide.

Time for lunch: The local markets offer endless options of fresh and tasty local cuisine.

Enjoy a coffee and oriental sweets in a local old city setting. Have a talk about the significance of Jerusalem for Muslims as well as modern day complexities while sitting meters away from the Goldern Dome of the Rock.

Continue on to walk the Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa, finishing at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.  This church carries the tradition of the place of crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and therefore is sanctified by more
than a billion people around the world.

Hope you enjoyed your day 
